Job Description

About the Role

Monitor community environmental health programs, conduct inspections, and enforce sanitation regulations. Work with public health professionals to investigate complaints and ensure compliance with federal/state health codes.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect food establishments, hotels, schools and public venues for health code compliance
  • Perform water and air quality tests at community facilities
  • Lead hazardous waste cleanups and coordinate disposal procedures
  • Provide public education about mosquito control, lead paint abatement and safe food handling
  • Collaborate with emergency management teams during public health emergencies
  • Maintain detailed inspection records, generate reports and develop corrective action plans
  • Keep up-to-date with changing health department regulations and environmental laws
  • Assist in grant writing and program funding activities
  • Serve as liaison between community stakeholders, contractors and regulatory agencies

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Environmental Science, or related field
  • 3+ years experience in environmental health, inspections or public sanitation
  • Strong analytical and documentation skills
  • Excellent verbal/written communication to educate diverse audiences
  • Ability to perform physical tasks (lifting up to 30 lbs, wearing PPE)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, GIS mapping software
  • Valid state driver’s license for traveling between sites
  • Knowledge of federal and state waste management regulations (OSHA, EPA)
