Job Description
About the Role
Monitor community environmental health programs, conduct inspections, and enforce sanitation regulations. Work with public health professionals to investigate complaints and ensure compliance with federal/state health codes.
Responsibilities
- Inspect food establishments, hotels, schools and public venues for health code compliance
- Perform water and air quality tests at community facilities
- Lead hazardous waste cleanups and coordinate disposal procedures
- Provide public education about mosquito control, lead paint abatement and safe food handling
- Collaborate with emergency management teams during public health emergencies
- Maintain detailed inspection records, generate reports and develop corrective action plans
- Keep up-to-date with changing health department regulations and environmental laws
- Assist in grant writing and program funding activities
- Serve as liaison between community stakeholders, contractors and regulatory agencies
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Environmental Science, or related field
- 3+ years experience in environmental health, inspections or public sanitation
- Strong analytical and documentation skills
- Excellent verbal/written communication to educate diverse audiences
- Ability to perform physical tasks (lifting up to 30 lbs, wearing PPE)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, GIS mapping software
- Valid state driver’s license for traveling between sites
- Knowledge of federal and state waste management regulations (OSHA, EPA)
